AFL reporter Tom Browne revealed on Triple M's Hot Breakfast the potential rule changes discussed as part of a two-day summit in country Victoria, where league CEO Gillon McLachlan invited all club CEOs.

"I'll start with no shot clocks for shots outside 50 metres," Browne said.

A rule that would disallow players from running down the shot clock at a particularly important time of a match.

"To speed the game, you wouldn't get the 30 seconds."

Another potential rule, Browne said "20 metre kicks were again discussed".

Breakfast host Luke Darcy stated that a change from 15m to 20m kicks as legal would speed the game up, removing the small, slow kick to kicks.

Browne revealed another point of discussion, with a change in the way the boundary umpires bring the ball back into play, saying that they will likely now come 5m into the field of play to fast-track game-play.

Finally, the committee meeting held by the AFL again looked into the State of Origin format, after the decision to axe pre-season competition AFLX earlier this week.

To have AFL reserves, a nation-wide league for every clubs second-grade team was a topic that didn't garner any support.

New rules will likely be trailed throughout pre-season matches.
