Collingwood will start Ben Reid up forward while Darcy Moore will move into defence, as the Pies look to end their finals drought in 2018.

Reid played forward at times last season and finished with 14 goals from 15 matches, including four in their round 21 loss to Port Adelaide.

Nathan Buckley hopes the move will see the Pies play finals for the first time in five years, with Moore to move down back in a bid to take the next step in his career.

The pair are also out of contract at the end of the 2018 season, meaning both players will be looking to impress in order to gain new contracts.

Collingwood have begun to speak to Moore about a new deal, while Reid is an unrestricted free agent at season's end, although it is believed he would prefer to remain in black and white.

The duo started training in their new positions before the Christmas break, and are expected to line up at opposite ends of the field once again as the players return to training.

Moore moves back to a familiar position after starring for Oakleigh in defence during his draft year, after a tough 2017 up forward for the Pies.

The 21-year-old kicked just 25 majors in 21 games, with 12 of those coming in a five-game stretch between rounds 9-14.

Collingwood may once again have a depleted forward line to start the season, as both Jamie Elliott and Alex Fasolo will likely have a delayed start to the JLT pre-season schedule after off-season surgeries.

Elliott will return to full training later this month after a serious ankle injury, as the Pies will likely be without their 2015 and 2017 goalkicking champion for the early part of the season.
