Elijah Hollands' return to Carlton has been confirmed, with the Blues awarding him one of their two open list spots.

The 23-year-old midfielder was delisted at the end of last season, but was given the summer to prove himself worthy of a list spot after 27 games across the previous two seasons.

"Elijah has attacked this pre-season with a real purpose and professionalism, and today's announcement is a true testament to the commitment he has made," Head of List Management Nick Austin said.

"From the moment last season came to a close, his attitude, preparation and competitiveness have been at the level we expect. Elijah has real X-factor, with the capacity to play not only in the forward line but through the middle of the ground, which is a benefit for us."

Fellow train-on prospect and former GWS Giant Wade Derksen also earned a list spot after impressing in the practice match last week, having previously signed for the Blues' VFL side.

"Wade has shown significant development over the past few seasons. His versatility, athleticism and work rate stood out throughout this pre-season, and we believe he has the attributes to add real value to our squad," Austin added.

Port Adelaide, meanwhile, have given defender Balyn O'Brien and forward Mitch Zadow two of the open list spots.

Former Geelong forward Ted Clohesy meanwhile, had his SSP trial ended, indicating the Power will leave a list spot open. The club vacated a list spot last week by moving Ivan Soldo to the long term injury list following an ACL rupture.

"(Mitch) is a very clean ball handler below his knees and has hit the scoreboard on a consistent basis displaying a combination of power and work rate in the front half," National Recruiting Manager Jason Cripps said.

"He shows strong defensive intent and hunts the opposition when the ball spills or on turnover.

"(Balyn) has sound defensive instincts and proved himself as being hard to play on. He has the size and athleticism to allow him to defend a variety of types and showed his strength in the air."
