Gold Coast coach Damien Hardwick was "disappointed" with Mac Andrew's ill-disciplined act during Sunday's 59-point victory over West Coast, which has become a feature of his game early in his career.

Andrew was caught holding the ball by Eagles debutant Milan Murdock, and let his frustrations out by dumping him on the ground, resulting in the visitors kicking a major from the goal square.

Hardwick acknowledged that Andrew is a volatile character but needs to rein it in.

"I was disappointed with that tonight," Hardwick said.

"He's better than that. I know he's better than that. That frustrated me.

"Generally, there's times where I can handle it, but he overstepped the mark tonight. He knows that.

"I'm there to support him. You look at my (playing) tape, it was just as bad as his. Worse.

"He will eventually grow out of it."

Andrew gave away three free kicks in the contest whilst manning West Coast forward Jake Waterman, who kicked 3.3.

Hardwick drew parallels to himself and Eagles wunderkind Harley Reid in understanding how difficult it can be sometimes to draw the line, and get on with the game.

"But at times, like me, he's got to pull his head in," Hardwick said.

"We'll speak about that. I love the kid. Love the way he plays. He was very good and then he had some moments tonight that were not so good.

"There's players out there that will overstep the mark and he's not going to be perfect, we understand that.

"What we're after is a little bit better than what he did tonight. It's my job to help him through that."

Bailey Humphrey should be available next week to take on Richmond, with the Suns being cautious as he reported hamstring tightness.

Charlie Ballard may also come into selection consideration after spending the past few weeks in the VFL as he builds his loads from an ACL injury last year, while Jed Walter and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan may also come into the frame.
