Port Adelaide president David Koch is reportedly weighing up a move for not "just a spot on the commission, but potentially to be the chair of it," according to veteran journalist Damien Barrett.
The AFL chair position is currently filled by Richard Goyder, who has sat ahead of the league commission since April 2017, succeeding Mike Fitzpatrick.
Goyder flagged his intention to extend his tenure in November last year, aiming to remain at the helm until 2028. His current term is set to expire in early 2026.
But Barrett believes that amid the instability and change at the Power, that Koch could be gunning for a new role within the AFL headquarters.
"David Koch, along with Ken Hinkley, has transformed this footy club from what it once was, but he is eyeing off a potential spot on the AFL commission as well," Barrett told Nine's Footy Classified.
"Not just a spot on the commission, but potentially to be the chair of it.
"Now, a lot is to play out. Richard Goyder is indicating that he wants to go around again, and that will be a process that is not under the control of David Koch.
"He's eying off a potential spot on the AFL Commission, and not just a spot, but potentially the chair of it."

"I raise that as part of the backdrop of instability and uncertainty at Port Adelaide as it wades through this Ken Hinkley to Josh Carr (transition).
"You've got the chair of the club also unknown."
