Collingwood and West Coast have suffered major injury blows ahead of round one.

Eagle Dom Sheed will miss at least ten weeks with a torn pectoral muscle, while Sharrod Wellingham will miss a month with a knee injury.

Sheed injured his right pectoral while playing for East Perth in the WAFL on Saturday.

Wellingham suffered a knock to his knee in an intra-club match during pre-season and subsequently missed the NAB Challenge and will miss at least the opening three rounds.

Recruit Lewi Jetta is also in doubt for round one due to a calf injury.

Meanwhile, Collingwood has suffered a blow, with Travis Varcoe ruled out of the season opener and potentially longer, after suffering a hamstring strain at training.

“He was training very well, playing particularly well and for some reason he does his hamstring,”
Director of Football Neil Balme.

“It’s not serious but he’ll miss some weeks. He would be medium term.”
