North Melbourne's newest recruit, Category B Rookie Lachy Brewer, already has links to Arden Street, playing football in Tasmania with Kangaroo gun Colby McKercher.
Brewer is the latest basketballer to make the switch to the AFL, following in the footsteps of Adelaide's Indy Cotton, West Coast's Jake Miles-Wrency and Melbourne's Oscar Berry.
Brewer represented Australia at the U17 FIBA World Cup, and spent time in the US College system.
His athleticism and high leap intrigued the Kangaroos, and their interest meant the 20-year-old turned down NBL opportunities to seek a career in the AFL.
The Tasmanian was also a standout performer as a junior footballer.
"We are really pleased to welcome Lachy to the club and give him the opportunity to bring those elite attributes back onto the footy field," North Melbourne Head of Football Talent Brady Rawlings said.
"Lachy has spent the last few years in a high-pressure college environment in the US, so we have no doubt he will bring a high level of professionalism to our young group.
"We believe his physical profile, combined with his previous football background, gives him a great platform to develop within our system at Arden Street."
