Geelong's hopes of playing all home games at GMHBA Stadium has received a boost after the Victorian Government committed $40 million to increase the capacity to over 40,000 fans.
The funds are in addition to the $102 million previously announced by the government and will go towards building a two-tier grandstand that will replace the Ford Stand and the Ablett Terrace and will hold 14,000, as well as new administration offices, a function room and technology upgrades including public wifi.
The investment will help the ground continue to attract "A-grade sport and entertainment".
"With new and improved facilities and a bigger capacity, the stadium will continue to attract A-grade sport and entertainment to Geelong and ensure that the city's name is known around the globe," Victorian Minister of Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Martin Pakula said and reported by AFL.com.au.
