West Coast have been left pleased by Mid-Season Draft selection Tom McCarthy's WAFL debut, while a former first-round pick also made his first appearance of the year for the club's reserves over the weekend.
McCarthy was approved to face Swan Districts on Saturday, just two days after arriving in Perth following his selection by the Eagles at the top of last week's talent intake.
A stellar start to the year with Richmond's VFL put the half-back on the radar of AFL clubs in just his second year at Punt Road.
The rebounding backman suited up for the WAFL Eagles over the weekend at Bassendean Oval, with West Coast falling to the Swans by 27 points.
McCarthy was among the highlights for the losing side, with the 187cm defender, who collected 26 disposals, five marks and three inside 50s in his maiden appearance in the blue and gold.
"Yeah he did well," coach Andrew McQualter said of the Pick 1 selection on Sunday.
"I think it's incredibly hard to turn up on a Thursday, not train with a team and just be throw a jumper on and be told 'go and play, mate'.
"I thought he was mature, composed with the ball. We saw his strengths when he took off and used the footy.
"It was a good start for him.
Former Pick 14 selection Campbell Chesser also played against the Swans on Saturday for his first game since undergoing ankle surgery in the pre-season.
Chesser has played just 32 AFL games since joining West Coast in 2021, with a series of injuries hindering the early years of his career with the Eagles.
The young utility returned in the WAFL on managed minutes but still came away from the contest with 22 disposals and eight tackles.
McQualter said it was a pleasing return for the luckless youngster.
"He's missed a lot of football and hasn't played a game this year," the West Coast coach said.
"For him to be on the park is a great result, and I thought he played a really good game of footy.
"He's a little bit on managed minutes, but it was good for him to see. There were some good performances there, unfortunately they didn't win.
"We'll go train this week and pick the best team for next week."
Following the Eagles' loss to Geelong at Optus Stadium, McQualter played down a corky issue for small forward Liam Ryan.
No other injury concerns came from the 43-point defeat, with West Coast now turning their attention to a Round 13 clash with North Melbourne in Bunbury on Sunday.
