Former Western Bulldogs captain Bob Murphy has opened up on a sledge he delivered to an opposition player a few years ago, that left him feeling "terrible".

Murphy was speaking about the topic on SEN Breakfast following news that surfaced on Tuesday about the Mark Baguley and Jed Lamb incident.

Lamb allegedly commented on Baguley's physical appearance before the Bomber made a comment about Lamb's father, who was murdered when Lamb was a child.

Baguley confirmed in a statement on Tuesday he was unaware of Lamb's father's passing.

Murphy then went on to talk about an incident he was involved in, when he made a personal sledge towards an opposition player.

Despite admitting he was unaware of the gravity of the situation, Murphy said it made him feel horrible, and said he couldn't apologise enough to the opposition player.

“It’s hard,” Murphy told SEN Breakfast on Wednesday morning.

“The one on the weekend, from what I’ve read, that is not hard. That’s talking about someone’s Dad and talking about a birthmark someone has got.

“We talk about how the line is different for everyone, but nah, that’s out.

“You’re not going to get consensus, so if you’re in doubt, you have to leave it out.

“This was a couple of years ago and we were playing a side, we will keep the names out of it.

“The Bulldogs are getting belted and I’m a bit dirty on it.

“It was in the last quarter and I stand next to my opponent and he has got the initials A.A on his football boot. I said, are you serious? That doesn’t stand for AA (All-Australian) does it? You selfish, you know.

“Then the player turned to me, I’ve never had someone look at me like that and say, that’s the initials of a family member who has passed.

“I, hands up, didn’t know that and apologised. I felt terrible and couldn’t apologise enough.”
