Richmond's Dustin Martin has taken out the AFL Players' Association MVP of the Month for June after a strong patch of form over the past four weeks.

The Tiger received 31% of the players' votes, with Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield (20%) and Sydney skipper Josh Kennedy (15%) rounding out the top three.

Martin averaged 31.8 disposals, 6.5 marks, 6.5 inside 50s and 5.8 clearances, as well as kicking five goals between rounds 11-15, helping Richmond to a 3-1 record over the past month.

Tim Watson - one of the four past winners who nominate six players each month - told aflplayers.com.auย that Martin could have a big say come finals time.

โ€œMartin has taken his game to a new level this season. Not only is he one of the leagueโ€™s most influential players but he consistently plays at an elite level,โ€ Watson said.

โ€œWhatโ€™s just as impressive is his ability to perform when there is so much discussion about his playing future and that speaks volumes of his maturity.

โ€œRichmond are a genuine finals contender and with a player like Martin thereโ€™s no reason why they canโ€™t go deep into September.โ€

Martin joins Rory Sloane (March/April) and Josh Kelly (May) as the winners of the monthly award so far this season.
