Luckless Saint Dan Hannebery's season looks over as he requires surgery on a torn hamstring.

According to Channel Seven's Tom Browne, Hannebery will have surgery on his hamstring and return to Melbourne, which will all but likely end his 2020 season.

The 29-year-old sustained the injury in round 5 and then re-injured the same leg while training on Friday.

St Kilda coach Brett Ratten confirmed Hannebery will require a lengthy stint on the sidelines.

"Dan had a bit of a setback yesterday (Friday)," Ratten said after St Kilda's 29-point win over Port Adelaide last night.

"He was doing some rehab training, he's re-injured that hamstring. He went and got a scan today; it looks like it's going to be a lengthy out."

Hannerbery has managed only 10 games since crossing to the Saints from Sydney at the end of 2018.
