Sydney will be forced to face Collingwood in round one without co-captain Jarrad McVeigh and key tall Sam Reid.
Coach John Longmire confirmed on Monday that the pair would both miss, as McVeigh recovers from a knee injury and Reid battles a hamstring and an Achilles issue.
Meanwhile, defender Ted Richards (calf) and midfielder Ben McGlynn (hamstring) will be given until later in the week to press their claims for senior selection as they both recover from pre-season injuries.
"McGlynn and Richards will definitely play (this week), at what level we're not sure," Longmire said.
"We've got to make that decision later in the week. They didn't play in the last reserves practice game, so that will come into some consideration."
