Brisbane forward Lincoln McCarthy has signed a three-year extension with the Lions.

The deal will see the 27-year-old play on at the Gabba until the end of 2024 were he will continue his services in hoping to bring another premiership to the den.

“I’m tremendously excited by what the future holds for the Lions," McCarthy told Brisbane media.

“I’m so grateful to the Club for the opportunity they’ve given me and the relationships I’ve built.

“I have really loved the past three seasons I’ve spent with the Lions and am so happy to have been given the opportunity to extend my time here."

The forward's impressive work for the club is said to have sparked the extension, with McCarthy averaging four tackles and a goal throughout his 58 appearances for the Lions.

General Manager of football Danny Daly stated that McCarthy's respected position throughout the club should also be noted for the decision.

“Linc has been an amazing addition to our footy Club,’’ Daly said to Brisbane Media.

“The care he exhibits for his teammates and staff highlights the quality of person he is, and it was little surprise that he was elevated into our leadership group this year."

After several years of injuries preventing the forward from shining at Geelong, McCarthy played just 29 games in seven years for the Cats.

However, since moving to Brisbane in 2018, the forward continues to dominate in the forward line - recording career best numbers throughout his 2021 season.

McCarthy has scored 23 goals and aided 15 goal assists in the past 17 games to date.

After last week's loss to the reigning premiers in Richmond, the Lions are in desperate need for a win in order to secure a spot in the top four.

The Brisbane Lions are set to take on the Gold Coast Suns in a must-win match this Saturday at the Gabba against their cross-town rivals.
