North Melbourne captain Jy Simpkin has sensationally been linked to a potential exit at Arden Street, adding to the list of AFL captains that could change clubs this off-season.
West Coast captain Oscar Allen has requested a move away from the Eagles via free agency, with Brisbane seen as the likely landing spot for the key forward.
Essendon skipper Zach Merrett's well-documented desire to join Hawthorn has emerged as another case of a club captain eyeing a fresh start.
St Kilda's Jack Steele has been linked to West Coast, who, as well as Fremantle, are understood to have asked the question of Brisbane co-captain Lachie Neale.
Now, according to 7 News, Simpkin has become frustrated with North Melbourne over his current role under Alastair Clarkson.
The two-time best and fairest winner has seen less midfield minutes over the past 18 months, with the likes of Harry Sheezel, Luke Parker, Tom Powell, George Wardlaw and Colby McKercher staking their claim as first-string onballers.
Simpkin had the sixth-highest centre bounce attendance rate at the Kangaroos this year, not including ruckmen, with the Roos captain often featuring in the front half.
The recent season saw Simpkin average 22.14 disposals per game, up from his 2023 and 2024 campaigns, but down from his 2021 and 2022 seasons when he was averaging north of 26 disposals each outing.

Like Merrett, Steele and Neale, Simpkin is under contract, and would need to have a trade request granted by the Kangaroos to secure a move elsewhere.
The situation surrounding Simpkin has led to his management sounding out rival clubs for their potential interest in the 27-year-old.
A club like West Coast, who are keen to add experienced midfielders to their list, could come calling given the attention they've placed on Steele and Neale this year.
The 2025 trade period will open on Monday, October 6, and will close on Wednesday, October 15.
