North Melbourne have confirmed that the club has approached the AFL about applying for a priority pick as the club begins operations without David Noble at the helm.

Noble's future had been heavily speculated on throughout the season, with the Kangaroos now having lost 14 consecutive games and the club making the move to cut ties with the 55-year-old.

In a press conference confirming the departure of the senior coach on Tuesday after just 38 games in charge of the struggling club, chief executive Ben Amarfio revealed that the club would seek help from the AFL in the form of a priority pick.

“It’s a great club, great spirit,” Amarfio said.

“We‘ve got some unbelievably exciting young talent and we’ve got some good old fellas as well.

“Do we need more talent? Absolutely. Are we going to be aggressive in acquiring more talent? Yes, we will, we’ll have real crack. We’ll go to the AFL – and we‘ve already started informal conversations – about mechanisms to bring more talent into the club through priority picks and such.”

“This system of the AFL is all about ups and downs. You go to the bottom, you take your licks, you get more talent, you rise again.

"The teams that are at the top of the ladder at the moment have all had their time at the bottom of the ladder as well. This is just a moment in time.”

More changes are expected at Arden Street in the coming months, with Geoff Walsh still conducting a review into the club's football department after another disappointing campaign in 2022.

The Kangaroos are still yet to win another game since their Round 2 victory over the Eagles and are now certain favourites to claim the wooden spoon, though North's president, Dr Sonja Hood, said she believed the club did have "real talent" on the current list.

“The first three quarters of the weekend’s game (against Collingwood) gives me confidence that they‘re a good young list as I describe it,” Dr Hood said.

“There’s some real talent in our list, real talent and one thing you can’t fast track his time.”

North Melbourne will play their first game under interim coach Leigh Adams on Saturday, July 16 against Richmond at Marvel Stadium.
