Young Fremantle midfielder Harley Balic has requested a trade back to Victoria after struggling to settle into life in Western Australia.

Balic played just four games in 2017, and was granted leave from the club twice during the season for personal reasons.

The 20-year-old returned to Victoria during the middle of the season, and did so again towards the end of the WAFL campaign, after suffering a hamstring injury.

Fremantle list manager Brad Lloyd told AFL.com.au's Road to the Draft Podcast that Balic was ready to head home for good.

"We've worked with him and his manager Matt Bain. Harley really started his career with Freo pretty well, he played some good senior footy. And even at Peel he came back for a game recently and had 28 touches," Lloyd said.

"He's shown some really good signs as a big bodied player who can go forward, and he's got the wrist injury sorted out.

"He's indicated he'd like to get back to Melbourne if he could and we'll work with him and his manager. We'll work through that in the trade period."

The Demons are currently leading the race for Balic, although Melbourne are yet to comment on their interest.

West Coast forward Tom Lamb is also set to return to Victoria during this year's trade period after limited opportunities in Western Australia.

AFL.com.au believe Lamb is ready to return back home after just one game in three seasons at the Eagles, with a number of clubs reportedly keen on his services.

Collingwood and Sydney have both been fans of Lamb for a long period of time, although it seems as though a move back home to Victoria would be the 20-year-old's preference.

While Lamb hasn't been given a chance at senior level in 2017, he did impress in the WAFL, averaging 16 disposals and kicking 21 goals for East Perth.
