Melbourne young gun Clayton Oliver has been sanctioned by the club following his drink driving charge last month.

The 19-year-old has been fined an undisclosed by the club and will be forced to "source his own road safety education and organise an expert to present to the players on the dangers of drink-driving and the link to road trauma," the club said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Clayton is embarrassed by his actions and understands that he has let himself and others down," Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said.

"He also understands how fortunate he was that no one was injured, nor was there any property damaged."

Oliver, the No.4 pick in the 2015 draft, played 13 games in his debut season this year and averaged 19.2 disposals per match.
