North Melbourne have stood down forward Taylor Garner, meaning he will not be available for selection this weekend.

Garner was allegedly involved in a bar fight in Sydney last weekend, according to a report by The Herald Sun.

North Melbourne GM of Football Cameron Joyce said the 25-year old's actions go against the standards of the club.

“We simply will not tolerate anyone who compromises team standards and expectations,” Joyce told the club website.

“Taylor knows he made some poor choices on the weekend and we will continue to work with him to ensure he bounces back a better person.

“At this stage, he will play in the VFL this weekend.”

Joyce was unwilling to publicly comment on the specifics of the incident, which is still under police investigation.

“The club’s decision to penalise Taylor has been made independently of any police investigation or potential outcome,” he said.

“After speaking with Taylor yesterday, he unreservedly apologised and has fully accepted the club’s initial stance.”
