The AFL have released a statement to all clubs and officials following Thursday night's interpretation of the "protected area" infringements.
The AFL understood that from the five 50-metre penalties they gave away, two of those were incorrect, while one was marginal.
"We will be reiterating to the umpires that if a player is making every effort to clear the protected area once play has been set, no 50-metre penalty should apply," the statement included.
