Essendon legend James Hird is returning to Windy Hill for his first official engagement with the club since leaving as coach at the end of 2015.

The premiership captain will sit down with former captain Jobe Watson and current CEO Xavier Campbell on a new podcast called Working Through It, which will be streamed every Wednesday afternoon through the Essendon club website.

The interactive podcast will provide fans with the chance to communicate with Hird, Watson and Campbell as the Bombers remain to be connected with their fans during the shutdown period.

Hird hasn't had any involvement with Essendon since resigning as coach at the end of the 2015 season, 12 months after serving a one year ban for his part in the club's supplements scandal.

Hird's son Tom recently joined the club as a Category B rookie after leaving a promising soccer career to have a chance to become the fourth-generation of the Hird family to play for Essendon.

Jobe Watson was also part of the supplements saga that rocked the club, being one of the 34 players banned for the 2016 season and having his 2012 Brownlow Medal stripped.
