First designs of Brisbane's new home from 2033 have been revealed as the Queensland government announces who will be responsible for the $3.6 billion Victoria Park build.

The Lions' future at the Gabba is set to come to a close following the 2032 Olympics, where they'll move to the 63,000-seat stadium.

The Queensland government opted against the redevelopment of the stadium, instead electing to demolish the oval, which will make way for urban renewal.

The Queensland club first played football at the Gabba in 1991, before a full-time move to the venue ahead of the 1993 season.

A brand-new stadium will be designed and built by Australian firms Cox and Hassell, which will team up with Japanese group Azusa Sekkei, according to ABC. It will be the home of the 2032 Olympics before becoming the home for cricket and AFL.

The companies worked on the Optus Stadium in Perth, as well as led redevelopments of the Adelaide Oval and the MCG.

First look into Brisbane Lions new home

The new stadium will be a major upgrade from the Gabba, which is limited by its 37,000 capacity.

It follows a recent trend in AFL stadiums improving its homes for clubs to house adoring fans and enhance the experience.

Optus Stadium officially opened ahead of the 2018 AFL season, and houses Fremantle and West Coast supporters of up to 61,000. They were previously at Subiaco Oval.

The Adelaide Oval also underwent significant reconstruction that transformed the historic venue into a world-class, 53,000-seat stadium. Adelaide and Port Adelaide have benefited from the rebuild since 2014.

The MCG is set to undergo a multi-billion-dollar redevelopment centred around the Shane Warne Stand, which aims to increase the capacity of the venue to 105,000, while new restaurants and facilities are also expected to be included. However, construction won't start until at least 2030.

The incoming Tasmania Devils were also ticked off for the build of a brand-new stadium at Macquire Point. The Devils will enter the league in 2028, but the ground is tipped to be completed in the club's third season in the AFL.
