International Rules is set to return in 2017, with Australia confirmed to host two-Tests in November next year.
The venues are yet to be confirmed, however, dates for the two matches against Ireland will be November 11 and 18.
The AFL and GAA have also agreed to play a two-Test series in Ireland in 2019.
The two sides had played two-Test series between 1998 and 2013, before playing one-off Tests in 2014 and 2015.
“The one-off Virgin Australia Test matches in Perth and Dublin over the last two years were two high-class encounters played in front of very strong crowds. Australian and Irish fans have shown they want to see a spectacular and competitive contest played between the most talented AFL players and Ireland’s best Gaelic footballers,” AFL General Manager of Football Mark Evans said.
“Restricting selection to only a player who has earned All Australian selection through his AFL career has ensured the prestige of playing in the Virgin Australia International Rules Series and we look forward to hosting the Irish side again next year.”
Ireland won the encounter between the two sides in Dublin, 3.11.5 (56) to 1.13.7 (52).
