Howe in favour of change to Mark of the Year voting

Collingwood's Jeremy Howe, who is widely known for his high-flying marks, is hopeful that the AFL will change the way the Mark of the Year is decided.

The hope for change comes after Howe was controversially snubbed at the Brownlow medal when Joe Daniher was given the minor accolade.

Howe's spectacular grab over Melbourne's Tom McDonald was hotly tipped to win the award by a landslide but instead was beaten by the Bomber's forward following a public vote.

“Word coming from above is they’re going to change it to a bit of a panel and it’s not going to be voted on by the public, but I’ll just see how I go,” Howe said on Monday as the Pies returned to pre-season training.

“I’ll just have another crack.”

On Brownlow night, Howe was visibly surprised when Daniher's name was called out as the winner of the 2017 Mark of the Year.

“I don’t think I masked it that well,” he admitted.

“If it happens next time, I might just have to look at the table the whole time.

“It’s all fun and games, Joey’s a great player and he takes good grabs, so I’ll just have to go higher next year.”
