Former Western Bulldogs captain Bob Murphy has revealed the story of how Wayne Carey saved him from a sticky situation with a group of “beefy, thick-necked rugby league players” in Bali.
Murphy said the former North Melbourne superstar intervened when a group of men, who were significantly larger than the skinny Bulldogs defender, seemed to be threatening him for complaining about their behaviour.
“He saved my bacon in Potato Head, Bali,” Murphy said on SEN Breakfast on Wednesday morning.
“I had upset a group of, what looked to me like big, beefy rugby league players.
“They were making my wife uncomfortable, it was just the two of us, and I sort of said, hey fellas, step off.
“Then it really got a reaction from this table of rugby league players and I was preparing myself, okay, I get beaten up here, it’s a matter of degrees.
“The Duck was just sitting in the far corner, got up out of his chair, strolled straight across, just leant down and had a quiet word to this group of beefy, beefy, thick-necked rugby league players.
“Then the table started laughing and he just walked past me, tapped me on the shoulder and said, there won’t be any trouble from those boys.”
