Hawthorn tagging sensation Finn Maginness has suffered a lacerated kidney and was taken to hospital following the Hawks' dominant 38-point win over Port Adelaide on Saturday afternoon.

7 News' Mitch Cleary reported that Maginness "felt discomfort post-game" and was taken to a hospital in Launceston for assessment. Once the concern was discovered to be more severe, he was transferred to a Hobart hospital where he will undergo surgery and recover for multiple days.

The extent of Maginness' injury, or a timeline for return, is unknown at this time. In 2021, Richmond legend Dustin Martin lost over 10 kilograms after sustaining a lacerated kidney and was unable to engage in intense physical activity for three months.

Maginness was influential in the Hawks win over the Power, playing a crucial role in holding superstar midfielder Zak Butters to a season-low 18 disposals. Maginness had nine disposals and five tackles of his own in the Hawks fourth win at UTAS Stadium in 2025.
