Hawthorn's Jack Ginnivan has been warned by the AFL for donning a stylish silver ring on his left hand during Saturday's match against GWS.

Ginnivan's bling was covered by his glove, which was being worn to protect the finger he broke in the off-season.

But it was subsequently revealed during the second term of the club's opening round clash by a former supporter and Collingwood fan.

When the image emerged on social media of Ginnivan wearing the ring on his left hand, he responded to the expose, "have a cry".

Under the laws of the AFL and rule 9.2, jewellery during matches is prohibited, stating that a player shall not wear any form of jewellery during a match.

Ginnivan was impressive during his club's loss to GWS. The 23-year-old gathered 17 possessions and kicked two goals in the defeat.

It came in a clash where the Giants stormed out to a 41-point lead late in the third term, maintaining the ascendancy for the majority of the day.

Hawthorn will have a chance to avenge its poor Opening Round performance on Friday, when they take on arch rivals Essendon at the MCG.
