An omission for Hawthorn forward Jack Ginnivan is looming after the out-of-form youngster was sighted training with the Hawks' VFL squad at training on Saturday.

Ginnivan has struggled to reach the form he dazzled opposition teams with in 2024 this season, kicking just two goals from the opening five matches, both of which were against Essendon in Round 1.

The 22-year-old was also strong at getting his teammates involved last season, averaging 5.8 score involvements per game, however in 2025 that has dipped to just 4.2.

It appears that after Hawthorn suffered their first loss of the season coach Sam Mitchell won't be afraid to wield the axe, with the youngster in the firing line. The Hawks suffered a 30-point loss to Port Adelaide, with a second-half improvement salvaging a humiliating first-half effort that saw the deficit balloon out to over 70 points.

Ginnivan, who had just 12 touches and minimal influence in the loss, looks set to be dropped, with fans watching the Saturday morning training session noting the livewire forward didn't train with the main group preparing for Easter Monday action.

Instead, Ginnivan trained with the Box Hill squad and left the ground with the Box Hill team.

"Trackwatchers say today that Jack Ginnivan spent the entire session this morning training with the VFL squad," journalist Sam Edmund said on SEN on Saturday.

Connor Macdonald could be a potential inclusion to replace Ginnivan as he makes strides towards a return from a syndesmosis injury suffered in Round 2, while veteran Luke Bruest could also return to the side in a full-time role after being the sub in Round 5.
