Hawthorn star forward Jack Gunston is set to miss the starting rounds of the 2021 season after undergoing back surgery.
After having to deal with a bulging disc, the spearhead's recovery will take 4-5 months, riddling his preparation for next season as he is set to miss the Hawks' start to their campaign.
Speaking toย hawthornfc.com.au,ย Hawthorn football boss Graham Wright expressed his confidence in Gunston's rehabilitation and preparation moving forward.
โJack has had some issues with his back in recent years and weโve been able to manage it conservatively, recently however it hasnโt settled and in consultation with Jack, our doctors and his surgeon we believe surgery is in his best interest going forward,โ Wright said.
โRecovery for this type of surgery is usually around 4-5 months and itโs important not to rush it.

Gunston's absence will leave a noticeable void in Alastair Clarkson's forward structure, with Jonathon Patton also set to be closely monitored after tearing his plantaris in the late stages of the 2020 season.
Gunston booted 31 goals from 16 games this season, the most by any player not to feature in the finals.
