Melbourne's sunny start to 2026 just got a whole lot brighter.

Following impressive pre-season performances under new coach Steven King, the Demons have secured the signature of one of their - and the league's - best young talents with 19-year-old Harvey Langford putting pen to paper for a contract extension.

Langford, a former first-round draft pick, was already signed on until the end of the 2027 season with his initial three-year first-round of the draft standard contract.

However, that hasn't stopped the prodigiously talented midfielder from extending his time at the Dees by another two seasons, meaning Demons fans can sleep easy knowing their 190cm boy-wonder is locked away until at least the end of 2029.

Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb said that Langford was an important piece in the Demons' long-term future.

“Harvey had an excellent first season at AFL level and showed composure and competitiveness that stood out for a young player," he said

“He's worked extremely hard since arriving at the club, and the way he applies himself on and off the field gives us great confidence in his growth and development.”

Having been taken with pick number six in the 2024 National Draft, Langford made an immediate impact at Melbourne during his first season; playing 22 games, kicking 14 goals and averaging 18 disposals.

The Dandenong Stingrays product is part of Melbourne's new-look engine room alongside the likes of Caleb Windsor, Kysaiah Pickett and Trent Rivers following the departures of stars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver during the the off-season.

Langford had 11 disposals and kicked one goal during Melbourne's weather-shortened pre-season match against Richmond last Friday.
