Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has not ruled out making more changes to his side ahead of Friday night's massive qualifying final against Geelong at the MCG.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Tigers' open training session on Thursday, Hardwick confirmed Josh Caddy would return to the side, after missing the final two games of the season with a hamstring injury.

As well as Caddy's return, Hardwick may consider Anthony Miles, Corey Ellis, Sam Lloyd or Shai Bolton, who all impressed during Richmond's VFL final win over Collingwood last Saturday afternoon.

"There might be a couple of difficult conversations. It's that time of year," Hardwick told reporters.

"Caddy is fully fit. He'll play. He's an important player to us, I love what he brings to the table.

"He adds to our flexibility and he's just a really good, solid player that wins contested ball and kicks goals.

"(Miles) is a possibility. 'Milesy' has been in terrific form all year … the conditions come into [his] favour as well."

While forward Jacob Townsend would have been a natural omission for Caddy given he replaced him in the side two weeks ago, his form means Hardwick simply cannot afford to play without him.

The former Giant has kicked 11 goals in two weeks, and Hardwick confirmed to media he would hold his spot, meaning running defender Oleg Markov or tall back Nathan Broad loom as the unlucky men who could be replaced.

Jason Castagna's name had also been thrown into the mix, but after playing every game in his second season, Hardwick believes he's become a crucial member of his 22.

"He [Castagna] hasn't hit the scoreboard for a couple of weeks, but his defensive pressure and his ability to halve and win contests keeps him in the side on a weekly basis," Hardwick said.

"We probably know on any given day one of those [small forwards] is going to be quiet, but they're the sum of the parts.

"Without those three to four guys, we're not half the side we should be or can be.

"Those players are really important to us and we expect them to play their role on the weekend."

Richmond will be out for their first finals win since 2001, having lost three consecutive elimination finals between 2013-15.
