GWS' "bulletproof" approach with forward Jake Stringer will hopefully reap the benefits once he returns to the senior side, says coach Adam Kingsley.

Stringer's inconsistent run due to injury woes and illness has limited the 'Package' to seven games thus far, and after the last six weeks on the sidelines, the Giants are excited for what he'll bring to the side.

The former Bomber has been named in Kingsley's side to take on Gold Coast at ENGIE Stadium on Sunday in a bid to consolidate the strong victory over Brisbane last week.

"The reality is he could have played against Port Adelaide. He was fit to play," Kingsley said on Friday.

"We decided to hold him out just to give him a little bit more work, and try and bulletproof him for the back half of the season.

"Hopefully, when he does return, he's in for good and we can keep him in for the remainder of the season."

Kingsley didn't rule out Stringer starting as the sub against the Suns, which is a role he has featured in before at his third club.

Captain Toby Greene will return with the 31-year-old to the line-up, while the Giants will lose Sam Taylor (toe) and Brent Daniels (adductor) to injury.

Veteran Stephen Coniglio is also inching back to a return to football, with the Giants coach "very confident" he'll be available after the club's mid-season bye.

Coniglio was last seen in Round 3 against Hawthorn, and has faced nerve issues that have sidelined him for two months.

"Very confident. He trained really well today, didn't feel it at all. Hit speed," Kingsley said.

"It's multifaceted, really, getting him back in. He's an important player.

"His leadership around a lot of our younger guys, particularly through the midfield, is going to be quite settling for them.

"We'll cross the bridge of full training leading into that West Coast game (in round 17) to see where it lies.

"He hasn't played for a long while, so I'd imagine it's probably back through the VFL."

GWS come into the 'Expansion Cup' with history on their side, in particular at the Sydney Showgrounds.

The Giants hold a 14-5 record since they were introduced in the competition in 2012, but have won all seven contests at ENGIE Stadium in that period.
