Brisbane Lions defender Marcus Adams has suffered anothern foot injury setback that is set to delay his football return.

The 26-year-old will undergo surgery later this week for a foot/heel issue that flared up while training in isolation recently and is now expected to miss four to six weeks.

In a statement released on the club website, the Lions stated that despite the club's wishes to let the injury recover in time, Adams met with his surgeon on Monday where the decision was made to operate.

This latest injury is one of many for Adams after missing the first 15 games last season with a back injury and suffering a myriad of foot problems while at the Western Bulldogs from 2016 to 2018.

In positive news for the Lions, ruckman Stefan Martin is remarkably expected back for the AFL return in June after recovering from PCL damage in his knee suffered in the Lions Round 1 loss to Hawthorn.
