Gary Ablett has reportedly agreed to a new deal with the Gold Coast Suns that will ensure the two-time Brownlow medalist ends his career up north.

The deal with tie Ablett to the Suns until the end of the 2018 season and is believed to be worth about $1 million a season.

Damian Barrett broke the news on Channel Nine's Sunday Footy Show and announced that Ablett and the Suns are believed to have come to an agreement on Friday, with the deal to be announced within the next few days.

The deal quashes any chance of a romantic return to his former club, Geelong, where he won two premierships in 192 games at the club.

Ablett is currently out injured for an indefinite period of time following a shoulder reconstruction in July of last year.
