Gold Coast co-captain Steven May has signed a contract extension at the Suns that will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2019 season.

May was reportedly weighing up offers from a number of Victorian clubs, but decided it would be better for him and his family to remain on the Gold Coast.

"Speaking with my family and with (my fiancée) Tess, she loves it on the Gold Coast, as do I," May told goldcoastfc.com.au.

"She's happy to keep working here and so am I, so we're looking forward to the next few years on the Coast.”

The 25-year-old played his 100th game for the Suns against North Melbourne last Saturday, after joining the club for their inaugural season in 2011.

May, along with his fellow captain Tom Lynch, believe it's the Gold Coast youngsters who are the future of the club, and he remains keen to guide them through the next phase of their careers.

"I really relish the pressure of being a captain and someone the boys look up to," May told the club's website.

"Week in and week out you get that pressure to perform and I think that's going to help my footy.

"The young core of players coming through between 18 and 23 are really exciting and they're very talented. They've got a huge work-rate.

"Now that I've got the next couple of years locked away, I can knuckle down and focus on my job, not only as a key back, but as captain of the club.”
