Richmond's forward line is the best in the AFL, according to former Saints and Bombers star Brendan Goddard.

Goddard named the reigning premiers' forward line number one in his Herald Sun story, ranking every club across the league 1-18.

The Tigers landed Tom Lynch last off-season in a major coup, booting 63 goals for the season to play a key role in securing the club its second flag in three years.

But don't sleep on the rest of the Richmond forwards in a talented group that features Jack Riewoldt, Kane Lambert, Jason Castagna and Daniel Rioli.

Goddard highlighted Lynch and Riewoldt as the best key position pairing in the league.

"Lynch and Riewoldt are the best key-position duo in the competition and were a key cog in the push to another Richmond premiership last season," he wrote.

"However, the Tigers’ forward line has more ammo than just those two. There is a great balance between the talls and smalls and the speed of the Richmond smalls is a standout with the likes of Bolton, Higgins, Rioli and Lambert.

"The X-Factor is when Dustin Martin gets thrown into the mix. He’s the best one-on-one player in the game when afforded time and space."

Rounding out Goddard's top four is GWS, Brisbane and Collingwood.

Surprisingly, West Coast are ranked sixth despite boasting forwards such as Josh Kennedy, Jack Darling, Liam Ryan and Jamie Cripps.
