Essendon forward Joe Daniher completely tore the ANZAC Day game apart yesterday, claiming the ANZAC Medal, with eight marks and three goals for the Bombers.

He finished with a total of 16 disposals, including 14 kicks and could have kicked six or seven goals had he kicked straight.

Kicking for goal is the major criticism of Daniher, who bagged 3.4 yesterday, despite claunking everything that came his way.

But despite his errant kicking, Daniher collected eight of nine votes in the ANZAC Medal voting.

Veteran teammate Brendon Goddard says Daniher could be as good as Lance Franklin, given his athleticism, combined with his height and ability to kick the ball a long way.

โ€œItโ€™s kind of in the Buddy mould,โ€ Goddard said.

โ€œBuddy was the first to have that agility and sideways movement (with) speed as well.

โ€œJoeyโ€™s obviously an elite mark and he moves really well โ€” thereโ€™s not too many his size that are capable below their feet like he is with his agility and sideways movement.

โ€œHeโ€™s a special talent. Heโ€™s the typical tall forward these days, theyโ€™re all coming in around 200cm and really agile and mobile.

โ€œWhen he puts it together heโ€™s quite a talent.โ€

Daniher has now amassed 75 games for the Bombers and kicked 120 goals.

The 23-year-old has kicked 12 goals in five rounds so far this season.

He is the first Essendon key forward to win the ANZAC Medal.
