GWS forward Toby Greene is once again the front page of controversy after making an unexpected jibe at Sydney forward Tom Papley during a half-time interview.

Tensions rose in the late stages of the second quarter during Friday night's Sydney Derby, with Greene and Papley unsurprisingly in amongst the heat of the contest.

With emotions running high and the Giants facing a 28-point deficit, Greene responded strongly when asked about the incidents while leaving the ground at half-time by Fox Footy, saying "[Papley] is looking overweight, let's see how he goes second half.”

GWS senior coach Adam Kingsley was quick to dismiss the comments, however, highlighting the emotional side of the Sydney derbies and the high stakes involved in this particular game.

"I wouldn't have thought so [that Greene will be sanctioned]," Kingsley said to media post-game.

"I'd be pretty disappointed if he got fined. I mean, he didn't use any language or anything like that, did he?

"It's a really important game for both clubs. We know the importance of it and all the players treat it seriously.

“So they're trying to put each other off and they're doing things, all within the rules, of course, but that's just AFL footy, it's part of the game. Winners are grinners, and if you're not, you move on. Five times prior to this we've been on the losing end and we've had to move on. I'm sure [Sydney] will do the same."

Swans coach Dean Cox provided a similar sentiment when quizzed on the matter, but admitted that Greene pushes "the boundaries" when speaking in the media.

"I don't really listen to other players during half-time interviews. There's always a bit of cheek between some of our players and their players, that's always happened," Cox said.

"People, when they speak in the media, generally are really calculated to opposition players. Some players push the boundaries a little bit, Toby's probably one of those."

Greene could still come under fire from the Match Review Officer, however, as it appeared he intentionally dropped his forearm into Swans midfielder Isaac Heeney's head while he was on the ground after a tackle in the first quarter. The MRO will release their findings from Friday night's fixtures on Saturday afternoon.

The Giants sensational comeback win, which stemmed from a 73-2 run beginning in the third quarter, almost certainly crushes Sydney's top eight dreams and moves GWS into fifth on the ladder temporarily with a record of 13-6.
