The Giants have re-signed academy youngster Logan Smith to a two-year deal, which sees him in orange and black until the end of 2028.

The 18-year-old ruckman has had some promising signs in the VFL in 2025, as he is averaging eight disposals and 18 hitouts per game, while sharing the ruck duties with teammate Nick Madden.

After having a tough start to the year, being out due to illness, he has played in every game since coming back in round 10.

Including a standout performance only a few weeks ago, where he managed to get 13 disposals, four marks and 21 hitouts alongside his goal.

Smith has quite the potential with his ruck work ability. Standing at 204cm, he has shown athletic promise in his nine games this year, and the Giants are excited about the prospect for the future.

The young gun was also named in the AFL Under 18s All-Australian squad in 2024, as he was averaging 10 disposals and 21 hitouts per game for the Allies.

Yet to play an AFL game, Smith looks to debut in the near future as he continues to impress at a young age. It was important for the Giants to lock him away for the next few years as they look to develop him into a great Ruckman for their future.

GWS EGM of Football, Jason McCartney, said Smith is a "terrific example" of what the northern Academy system is about.

"Logan is a terrific example of what our Academy system is all about - identifying and developing local talented players and supporting them as they transition into the AFL environment," McCartney said.

"He's had some challenges early in his first season, but has shown great character and resilience to get back on the park and continue improving.

"We're really pleased to see him sign on and look forward to his continued growth over the coming years."
