Newly appointed General Manager of Football at St Kilda, Geoff Walsh, has spoken on the club's movements in this year's trade period, flagging an interest in Geelong's Esava Ratugolea.

Ratugolea reportedly has several clubs interested in obtaining his services, reportedly meeting with Port Adelaide last week as he looks to continue his career away from the Cats.

The 24-year-old managed just four games at senior level in 2022 and despite the Cats initially stating they would not be trading Ratugolea, their stance seems to have softened with list boss Andrew Mackie confirming on Tuesday that the club was involved in talks about his future.

"Clearly blokes like Sav, six years into the system, just wanna start playing footy and we've had that discussion with him and we continue to try and map out for him how that would look for him," Mackie said on Trade Radio.

"He's a contracted player and no doubt the coach loves him, we love him, but totally understand that he's trying to work out where he is going to play his footy. We're pretty clear on how that looks."

Walsh appeared on Trade Radio on Wednesday, confirming that the Saints did have some interest in the contracted tall, but admitted he isn't fully across list management decisions as he enters the role.

"He's a player that has been discussed," Walsh said.

"I know that our list management team have discussed him.

"Where it's at, I don't know. Being as transparent as I can, the name has certainly been mentioned in some of the list management notes."

St Kilda welcomed their first incoming trade player of this trade period on Wednesday, with Zaine Cordy joining the club as a free agent.
