Geelong champion Sam Newman is recovering after a 10-day hospital stay.
Newman, now 80 years of age, suffered two transcient ischemic attacks (TIA), or 'mini strokes' causing him to slur his words, thus alerting his partner to something being awry.
Emergency surgery to widen the carotid artery in Newman's neck was undertaken, and ultimately successful, with the media personality taking to his Youtube channel to document the scare, and his subsequent recovery.
The former host of the Footy Show credited the quick thinking of his partner Sue Stanley, who promptly called emergency services, who rushed to the scene on Bay Street in Port Melbourne.

The Hall of Fame member said loss of strength in both of his arms was another symptom of the TIA, caused by blood reaching the brain, but was seemingly in high spirits, cracking jokes in the video, uploaded to his channel on Sunday night.
"It took them a long time to find my brain but eventually they located it," he quipped, before telling viewers that all testing after the emergency surgery resulted in a "glowing health report."
Newman is sporting a rather gnarly scar on the side of his neck after the surgery, and will spend the next period of his storied life on the mend.
