Geelong gun forward Tyson Stengle has taken a leave of absence from the club and pre-season training, with no timeline confirmed for his return.

The Cats are hopeful that he'll be back in the "short term".

"Tyson's welfare is our priority and, with the support of the Club, he'll be given the time he needs before returning to training," Geelong GM of Football Andrew Mackie said.
This puts the forward in doubt for the club's Opening Round clash against Gold Coast on March 6 at People First Stadium.

Stengle played 24 games in 2025, including the grand final loss to Brisbane.
Since joining Geelong, the 27-year-old has revived his career after stints at Richmond and Adelaide, to become an All-Australian and an elite small forward.

Stengle's incredible form resulted in a five-year extension in 2024, knocking back strong rival interest from St Kilda to remain at Kardinia Park.
