Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon has named the top five Demons he played with, saying current skipper Nathan Jones "wouldn't be far behind."

Jones plays his 250th game in the red and blue this weekend, and while the two never played together, Lyon thinks he is one of their all-time greats.

“He has been a fantastic performer for the Melbourne Football Club in times when the club was going poorly, he just kept fronting up and playing good footy,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“That is the sign of a really good player to perform when they’re no good and now they’re playing well and he’s still playing really good footy.

“He’ll go into the Melbourne Hall of Fame and so I’m hoping he finally gets some finals success.”
