Essendon great Matthew Lloyd has said Andrew Gaff should be ruled out for the remainder of the season after his blow on Andrew Brayshaw on Sunday, including a potential Grand Final.

Appearing on AFL.com.au's Access All Areas, the AFL Hall of Famer said "I'd hate to see Gaff play in a grand final to be honest, after what I saw yesterday."

Lloyd said Gaff appeared to be "absolutely rattled by the day" and the 26-year-old "would've had a sleepless night."

Co-host and former Cats champion Jimmy Bartel agreed, saying Gaff "won't get below six weeks."

"The quicker we can get punches and those sort of actions out the better," Bartel said.

A potential six-week penalty means Gaff could play in the Grand Final if the Eagles lost in the first week of the finals and still progressed to the last day of the season.

The pair's comments follow on from Garry Lyon's thoughts on SEN Breakfast on Monday morning, as the former Melbourne captain believed it was in the Barry Hall realms of suspensions.

"I think it’s somewhere between six and eight I reckon," Lyon said.

"It’s up in the Barry Hall category, isn’t it?"
