It emerged today that the 26-year old will depart GWS in free agency, with a move to a Victorian club being his preference.
Williams is keen to head south to live closer to his sister who lives in Albury.
Big news. I understand Zac Williams is keen to go to @CarltonFC . Loves the giants, but exercised free agency in part to be closer to family. Appears huge win for the blues. North also made bold play @7NewsMelbourne @7Sport

“It’s disappointing to receive this news as Zac has come a long way since coming through the Giants Academy pathway,” Giants football boss Jason McCartney told the club website.
“We understand that free agency is part of the current football landscape and that the players have the right to go down this path.”
However, Williams is understood to have more interest in becoming a Blue, who are desperate for midfield help for Patrick Cripps.
Williams could command a deal worth upwards of $900,000 a season.
