From guernsey choices to strange hairdos, Jack Ginnivan's decision to don a stylish ring on his finger during a game has inspired a deep-dive into some of the AFL's top wardrobe malfunctions.

Ginnivan was outed by a Pies fan on social media, prompting the league to intervene with a warning.

The questionable decision doesn't stand alone over the years, and this article takes you through some less-than-memorable wardrobe choices.

5. Bulldogs socked with major fine

The Western Bulldogs were fined $15,000 for breaching the AFL's uniform policy in 2002 after the league ruled that three players took to the field against Hawthorn on Friday night wearing inappropriate socks.

The club was fined $5000 for each of the players, who included Scott West and Daniel Giansiracusa. Another player, backman Mark Alvey, was also investigated for incorrect sleeve length and asked to explain his uniform or incur a financial penalty for the club.

The Bulldogs weren't the only club suffering for the sake of fashion. A Brisbane player was also fined $5000 for wearing "bike shorts" underneath his uniform, as the league cracked down on acceptable match wear.
