From guernsey choices to strange hairdos, Jack Ginnivan's decision to don a stylish ring on his finger during a game has inspired a deep-dive into some of the AFL's top wardrobe malfunctions.

Ginnivan was outed by a Pies fan on social media, prompting the league to intervene with a warning.

The questionable decision doesn't stand alone over the years, and this article takes you through some less-than-memorable wardrobe choices.

9. Smith shoe swap at AFL awards night

Geelong star Bailey Smith isn't immune from the AFL spotlight given his star-player status and off-field interest from the wider Australia public.

But during the AFL's All-Australian dinner, when Smith was awarded the AFLCA Player of the Year trophy alongside Gold Coast's Noah Anderson, the controversial Cat rocked up New Balance 'snoafers' paired with his navy suit.

New Balance 'snoafers' are a hybrid of the brand's 1906R running shoe and a penny loafer, designed by Charlotte Lee.

Ahead of entering the hall to begin the evening, Geelong CEO Steve Hocking was alerted by Smith's wardrobe choice, and insisted he put on his RM Williams boots instead.

The dress code for the AFL awards night was cocktail, and 'snoafers' wouldn't fall under that description.

Smith doubled down on the bold clothing choice at the Brownlow Medal, wearing an all-black suit with Oakley silver speed dealers he donned down the red carpet and during the night.
