Fremantle coach Ross Lyon says the club's star recruit from 2015, Harley Bennell, will not play in the Dockers' round one clash against Geelong.

Bennell, who battled calf injuries throughout last season, is making solid progress according to Lyon, however, will not be risked early in the season, meaning we may well not see the former Suns' make his debut in purple until a third of the way through the season.

"He won't be available for round one but his rehab is progressing well, particularly post Germany," Lyon said in a Q and A on the AFL's Facebook page.

"We expect to see him, if all goes to plan, in the early rounds."

Bennell travelled to Germany last December to visit world renowned specialist, Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfarht, to overcome his ongoing calf issues.

Lyon also confirmed the club's leadership group will be announced at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, for those of you interested in Lyon's off-field habits, he prefers chicken fast food store, Oporto, over Nandos and is a huge fan of fairy bread.
