Lance Franklin's five goals haul against Richmond on the weekend has put him within touching distance of former Swan Barry Hall and former Pie Saverio Rocca on the all time list of most VFL/AFL career goals.
Franklin is currently 15th on the list on 740 goals after 229 games, six goals behind Hall (746) and eight goals behind Rocca (748).
Franklin is a further 57 goals behind 10th placed Bernie Quinlan, who kicked 817 goals in his 366 game career.
If the former Hawthorn star can continue his current form, he may well enter the top ten before the year is out. Franklin has kicked 34 goals so far this season in eight games, averaging 4.3 goals per game.
If he continues at this rate, Franklin will kick 94 goals by the end of the regular season, putting him on 800 goals. But given the Swans will likely reach the finals and possibly even the top four, he could play two to three more games in the finals, putting Bernie Quinlan's 10th spot in danger.
Regardless of how many goals Franklin kicks this season, he will more than likely be the seventh player in VFL/AFL history to kick over 1,000 career goals by the end of his career, with the three-time Coleman Medalist just three years into a nine-year deal with the Swans.
