AFL Draft prospect Kalani White has committed to Melbourne as a father-son prospect.

The son of 268-game Demon Jeff White, Kalani also had the choice of selecting to be aligned to Gold Coast's Academy, where he has played his talent pathway footy.

It was widely expected across the industry he would nominate Melbourne, having trained with Melbourne in pre-season and played three VFL games for Melbourne-aligned Casey.

White was particularly impressive on debut, kicking 2.2.

An AFL Academy member and part of the Allies side at the U18s National Championships, the 198cm prospect has shown a capacity to play across all three lines over the past 12 months.

“It's not just aerial presence. For a big man, he's really fast and can move well,” Gold Coast Academy coach Jarrod Cotton told Zero Hanger earlier in 2025.

“So we're just trying to get that into his game at an elite level, and for his size, he's an elite kick for goal and field kick.

“The way he launches and catches it makes him a hard matchup, and the fact he can play at either end gives coaches a lot of options.”
